How to prepare for the Allurion balloon treatment

How to prepare for the Allurion balloon treatment

If you’ve chosen to have the Allurion Gastric Balloon procedure, it means you’ve had extensive consultations with our doctors and have been approved as a patient. Now, it’s time to do some of the ground work before the procedure itself. So, here’s how to prepare for the Allurion balloon treatment to set your weight loss journey up for success.

Consultations

You of course have your consultation through the initial stages of the Allurion process. However, there is also a consultation to ensure you’re still eligible for the treatment in the lead up. The doctor who will perform the treatment on placement day will evaluate your current suitability and answer any questions you have.

Once you and the doctor have thoroughly discussed the procedure and agreed upon its ongoing suitability, a date will be scheduled for the balloon insertion. In preparation for the procedure, we will provide you with the required prescriptions to manage any potential side effects that may arise in the initial days following the placement of the balloon. For further guidance during the pre and post-insertion phases, you will have a meeting with our dietitian, who will offer a comprehensive nutritional guide to support you throughout this period. This guide will address your dietary needs and provide valuable information to help you navigate life with the balloon successfully.

Medical History and Status

You will provide a complete medical history, including underlying health conditions, allergies and medications that you haven’t already disclosed or that have become applicable since your last consultation. You will need to update your information as needed right up until the placement day, and throughout the balloon’s lifecycle. This helps us assess your plan and treatment accordingly.

Lifestyle changes

Once you’ve spoken to our nutritionist and dietician, you’ll begin adopting lifestyle habits that include a balanced diet and regular exercise. These changes will not only help make your treatment a more sustainable solution to weight loss but also prepare your body for placement day.

This is a major factor to the success of your Allurion Balloon result, and will be your best bet for making this the start of a lifelong change.

Pre-procedure instructions

Follow any specific instructions provided by your healthcare professional. This may include fasting before the procedure, avoiding certain medications or supplements, and stopping smoking or drinking alcohol for a specified period before the treatment.

Support system

Build a strong support system of friends, family, or support groups to help you stay motivated and provide assistance during the weight loss journey. Having a support network can significantly enhance your chances of success.

It’s important to note that the exact preparation process may vary depending on your healthcare provider’s guidelines and your individual circumstances. Make sure to follow their specific instructions and seek clarification if you have any doubts or concerns.
